Inhabited Garden

The project rehabilitates the floors and gardens of a 19th-century house on Rua do Almada in central Porto. The original architectural elements are preserved on the front and rear facades, and the backyard is complemented by a new living space.

On the ground floor is the reception of Hotel Jardins do Porto and the restaurant “O Jardineiro,” a multifunctional space open to the city. This fills the existing courtyard, transforming it into a winter garden in continuity with the interior.

The noble floors of the hotel contain six large rooms, and the top floor has three more intimate-scale rooms. The central staircase, now rehabilitated, reveals its marbled stucco paintings. The building’s skylight was also rehabilitated, as were the wooden balustrades that define this central space. Vertical access is complemented by a discreetly integrated elevator in one of the existing building's interior doors.

The design of the rooms is personalised, including contemporary materials and furniture. Dark aluminium partition doors define the bathing areas where sinks on iron and wooden furniture are also customised. On the top floor, the rooms share a common area filled with custom-designed furniture, bordered by external balconies.

The ornamental elements refer to the hotel's theme, inviting visitors to walk through the city and discover its landscape richness.
