Nova IMS – Information Management School
A Campus Overlooking the Tagus
The NOVA Information Management School (IMS) will have a new campus on the northern bank of the Tagus, integrated into the overall plan of the Ocean Campus, agreed upon by the Lisbon Port Authority and the municipalities of Lisbon and Oeiras.
The proposed project extends along Avenida Dr. Alfredo de Magalhães Ramalho in Oeiras and borders Praia de Algés. In this context, the NOVA IMS campus integrates the educational and research functions of this institution with the various recreational uses of this riverfront.
The complex sits on a podium that welcomes students, professors, and visitors—from a staircase-amphitheatre (to the south) and two ramps (east and west)—and leads them to the various floors. Among the other accesses, a central helicoidal ramp stands out, surrounding a garden, generating floor-to-floor different foyers around it.
The teaching and research areas are located in two wings along two longitudinal axes, ending to the south with a wing of two arena-style auditoriums and a large auditorium (400 seats) overlooking the Tagus. The roof (the fifth facade) is defined by a central vault and a rhythmic pergola covering a final terrace to the south, also facing the river.
Textured exposed concrete marks the general structure of the complex, combined with other more ephemeral materials. By its presence and nature, this new campus constitutes an important urban hub between the riverside margins of Lisbon and Oeiras.
